NPWT Foam Dressing Kit Selection
Posted by Administrator on Mar 1st 2016
A frequent question people have who are needing foam dressing kits for a wound vac pump for negative pressure wound therapy (also known as NPWT, vacuum assisted closure, or VAC) is: "Do I really have a selection?" Many have been convinced that the brand of wound vacuum pump dictates the brand of dressing used. In most cases that is not actually true. Some pumps (such as the Pensar WoundPro) are designed to have two tubes going all the way to the pump, whereas many pumps have only one tube. As long as the single or double lumen tube criteria is matched between the dressing kit and the pump, you can use a dressing kit from one manufacturer, and a pump from another manufacturer.
The second thing that must be considered in fully answering this question is the type of connector between the foam dressing kit and the connecting tube that goes to the canister. Manufacturers will sometimes use special types of connectors to make it more difficult to use another company's dressing kits with their pumps. Sometimes these special connectors need to be cut off when mixing brands, or an adaptor must be used.
